Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring at least 2 years of recent specialty experience and prior travel experience, with day shifts on a 3x12 schedule.

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a hospital setting
  • Primary patient population includes post-surgical patients from bariatric, urology (TURP, TURBT, nephrectomy, ileal conduit, nephroureterectomy), hepatobiliary (Whipple, liver resection, complex biliary cases), colorectal (colon resection, ostomy creation/takedown, surgical oncology), and trauma specialties
  • Patients frequently present with necrotizing soft tissue infections requiring serial debridement and Wound Vac changes
  • Post-operative pain management includes epidural, PCA, ketamine drip, and lidocaine infusion
  • Patients commonly have multiple drains (Foley, JP, IR drain, NG tube, chest tube, G-tube, J-tube, GJ-tube) and Wound Vacs
  • Day shift: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM (3x12-hour shifts)
  • 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period (combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
  • EMR: Epic (required; hard stop)
  • Floating between departments, units, and facilities may be regularly required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Block scheduling is not available

Requirements

  • Active MO RN license or compact RN license required; both Kansas and Missouri licenses (or a compact license) must be in hand at time of consideration, as floating across state lines may be required
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/stepdown specialty experience required, including at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days
  • Prior travel nursing experience required (first-time travelers are not accepted)
  • Epic EMR experience required

  • 2 professional references required: at least one must be supervisor-level or above, the second may be a charge RN; all references must be from someone who has worked with the candidate within the past year
  • SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • 13-week contract
  • Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
  • RTO is capped at 7 days for the contract; all RTO must be finalized prior to consideration and no additional RTO or schedule requests will be accepted after offer
  • Prior employees of BJC or Saint Luke's health systems must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler; returning travelers must have an 18-month break unless they have completed a 3-month break in service
  • Candidates who cancel a signed BJC contract to accept another BJC assignment are not eligible for a new BJC opportunity until completing an assignment elsewhere
  • Orientation includes 10–15 hours of compliance modules due the Monday one week prior to start; Epic training (module or test-out option) must be completed first
  • Infusion pump and glucometer training must be completed by the Sunday before the start date
  • Travel partners are not accepted for this position
  • No block scheduling accommodations available
