Job Title: Pathologists Assistant Profession: Laboratory Specialty: Anatomic Pathology Duration: 16 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum 3 years License: NC or Compact license required Certifications: ASCP - PA Must-Have: Traveler experience required Skills in hospital clinical laboratory Experience in macroscopic description of gross anatomic features Ability to perform gross examination and dissection of large and complex specimens Experience in performing gross examination and dissection of small biopsies Skilled in preparing tissues and histological processing Ability to section surgical pathology specimens Experience with specimen fixation, receipt, and labeling Evisceration skills Experience in preparing tissue samples for microscopic examination Ability to obtain and review patient clinical information such as scans, X-rays, and lab results Familiarity with tumor triage and adult and fetal autopsies Description: The Pathologists Assistant will be responsible for performing gross examinations and dissections of specimens. The role includes preparing tissues for histological processing and sectioning surgical pathology specimens. The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in macroscopic descriptions of gross anatomic features. Responsibilities include specimen fixation, receipt, and labeling. The Pathologists Assistant will also conduct eviscerations and prepare tissue samples. The candidate should be equipped to obtain and review relevant patient clinical information. Experience with tumor triage and conducting autopsies is preferred. Strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with the medical team. A Master’s degree is preferred but not mandatory. The position is day shift, requiring 40 hours per week with no call or weekend requirements. The candidate must be comfortable floating to other units as necessary based on skill sets and census.
