Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU position specializing in HVI Pre/Post care at a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center, with at least 1 year of PACU experience and cardiac experience preferred.

Details

  • HVI Pre/Post unit (Cost Center 1707) within an acute care, Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
  • Unit has 21 beds and supports Phase 1, Phase 2, and moderate sedation recovery
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: Pre-op 1:3, Phase 1 1:2, Phase 2 1:3
  • Perioperative Care Assistants (PCAs) are present, with 3–5 covering the whole unit collectively per day
  • Common cases include anesthesia and sedation recoveries (outpatient and inpatient), heart catheterizations (left and right), EP procedures (pacemakers, ablations, EP studies), structural heart procedures (TAVRs, LAAOs, mitral clips, PFO closures), vascular surgeries (carotid endarterectomies, carotid stents, bypasses, AAA repairs, angiograms), thoracic procedures (hiatal hernia repairs, lung resections, mediastinoscopies, EGDs), and CT surgery cases (CABGs, valves, LVADs — open sternotomy patients are not recovered in this unit)
  • ICU patients are occasionally recovered in the PACU
  • RNs are required to read cardiac strips
  • Charting is done via Epic EMR
  • 13-week day shift contract
  • 12-hour shifts; weekly schedule must include at least one 0800–2030 shift, with remaining shifts drawn from: 0500–1730, 0600–1830, 0700–1930, or 0800–2030
  • On-call is required and assigned as needed; call shifts are Saturdays, Sundays, and hospital-recognized holidays, rotating equally through the nurse roster; call hours are 0600–1830 with a one-hour response time
  • No floating to other units required

Requirements

  • Active WV RN license or a compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current AHA BLS and AHA ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of PACU experience required
  • Cardiac experience strongly preferred
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Ability to respond to on-call assignments within one hour
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN); if permanently employed within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
  • Copy of certifications and driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Nurses provide post-anesthesia and sedation recovery care across Pre-op, Phase 1, and Phase 2 settings
  • Respiratory therapy staff set up and manage RT equipment; general awareness of equipment is sufficient for nursing staff
  • Approximately one week of unit-specific orientation is provided, along with a survival guide
  • Scrubs are provided in ceil blue
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from this WVU facility to be eligible (100-mile radius rule applies for Princeton Community Hospital)
  • Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before re-applying
  • Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one year cumulatively; after reaching one year, a 2-year break is required before returning
