Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an inpatient Oncology position specializing in acute leukemia and hematology, requiring ONS Chemo Certification and a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience including at least 1 year in hematology oncology.

Details

  • Inpatient oncology unit with a focus on acute leukemia and hematology patients
  • Primarily cares for newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients, including adults and geriatrics
  • High volume of blood product administration, IV antibiotics, and electrolyte management
  • Goal staffing ratio of 1:4, with potential for 1:5 based on unit needs
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
  • No set/blocked scheduling — self-schedule requests are accepted before the schedule is finalized, though preferred shifts are not guaranteed
  • If assigned to a rotating day/night contract, shift assignments (days, nights, or a combination) are determined by department needs and reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
  • Epic EMR required
  • Telemetry monitoring with interpretation of dysrhythmias required

Requirements

  • Active OH RN license or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and ONS/ONCC Chemo Certification
  • NIHSS certification preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of overall nursing experience required
  • At least 1 year of inpatient hematology oncology experience required
  • Med/surg oncology experience required
  • Current, active experience in inpatient oncology within the last 12 months required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required (must be from an inpatient unit)
  • Proficiency with IV therapy, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, and peripheral line care
  • Ability to recognize and communicate abnormal lab values
  • Nursing degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program required
  • 2 professional references required — at least 1 must be from a manager, director, or formal leadership role (e.g., supervisor); a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

  • Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
  • Skills in chemotherapy administration, monitoring, and body fluid handling post-chemotherapy are required
  • Experience with oncologic emergencies including Acute Tumor Lysis Syndrome (ATLS) and sepsis is expected
  • Experience caring for patients with leukemia/blood dyscrasias and lymphoma/non-Hodgkin's lymphoma required; multiple myeloma experience preferred
  • Orientation consists of the first week on day shift (Mon–Fri), followed by 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
  • Ohio state fingerprinting is required and must be completed promptly upon signing a contract — candidates outside Ohio may need to travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location or will be mailed a packet for urgent completion
  • RTO must be submitted with your profile and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Local candidates are accepted
  • Former employees of the facility are eligible for a travel assignment after a minimum 6-month separation; current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Multiple parking permit options are available for purchase through CampusParc, ranging from surface lot access with shuttle service to 24/7 garage access
