Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Special Care Nursery (Level II) position requiring prior travel experience, charge experience, and delivery room background.

Details

  • Special Care Nursery (Level II) setting within a hospital environment
  • Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (6:50 AM – 7:20 PM)
  • Newborn patient population including low birth weight infants, neonatal abstinence syndrome, newborn hypoglycemia, and large for gestational age newborns
  • Clinical skills include newborn assessment, phototherapy, thermoregulation, IV antibiotics, metabolic screening, cord care, neonatal abstinence syndrome care, and car seat education
  • IV therapy including starting and maintaining IVs
  • Floating to postpartum unit for baby care assignments required
  • Every other weekend required
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility

Requirements

  • Active MD or compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, NRP, and STABLE
  • Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience, with at least 2 years within the last 7 years
  • Special Care Nursery / Level II experience required
  • Delivery room experience required
  • Charge RN experience required
  • Preceptor experience required
  • At least 1 completed travel assignment required
  • Two supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment, supporting at least 2 years of experience in the previous 3 years
  • Driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include discharge teaching to parents, infant identification, vaccine administration, circumcision assessment and parent education, and isolation precautions/PPE
  • Candidates who were previously employed at MedStar must have been separated for a minimum of one year before being eligible to return as a traveler
  • Candidates living within 60 miles of the facility are considered local and are accepted at a different rate; candidate address must match their driver's license to determine local status
  • No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment; no more than 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract, and all RTO must be declared upfront and cannot be changed once the profile is under review
  • Manager interviews are not guaranteed; candidates should be comfortable proceeding without one
  • First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
