Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Candidates must be within a 50-mile radius. Candidates must not be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any affiliated facility. First-time travelers will not be accepted. Candidates must provide a driver's license upon submission. Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care departments. Candidates must pass an open-book exam on skills learned during orientation with a score of 90% or higher. Description: This unit is a fast-paced environment that provides care to critically ill patients. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:1-2 for ICU patients and 1:4 for PCU patients. Common diagnoses include trauma injuries, sepsis, stroke, ARDS, MODS, COPD, and cardiac arrest. Nurses are required to titrate medication drips, including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics. There is a charge nurse present on each shift who also takes an assignment. Patient care techs assist on the unit with a ratio of 1:18. Registered nurses should be able to troubleshoot ventilators and high-flow equipment. There are no monitor techs, and nurses must interpret telemetry strips using centralized monitoring. Shifts are scheduled from 0630-1830 and 1830-0630, with self-scheduling based on unit needs. The requirement for weekends is four shifts in a six-week schedule period. Floating to inpatient units is required, excluding maternity and NICU. The designated scrub color is navy blue. The unit is looking for attributes such as critical thinking skills, a positive attitude, and a team-oriented mindset for success. Requests for time off should be made upfront, with limitations on additional time off during the assignment. The hospital reserves the right to cancel a limited number of shifts during the assignment. Charting is done through an electronic system. A BSN is not required for this position. This is an acute care setting with a trauma level designation.
