Care for patients with neurological diagnoses including epilepsy, brain tumors, subdural hematoma, TBI, scoliosis surgeries, and patients undergoing 24–48 hour trend EEGs. Must successfully complete Day 1 SIMs Lab skills assessment (pass/fail), demonstrating competency in sterile field technique, Foley catheter insertion, and central line dressing changes.
Provide direct patient care on a 48-bed Neuro Acute unit, including 10 epilepsy specialty rooms, maintaining a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
Care for patients with neurological diagnoses including epilepsy, brain tumors, subdural hematoma, TBI, scoliosis surgeries, and patients undergoing 24–48 hour trend EEGs
Perform and maintain competency in sterile field procedures including Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
Monitor telemetry and MedSurg patients, detecting and responding to subtle changes in patient condition using strong critical thinking and assessment skills
Assess cranial nerves and support management of BiPAP in collaboration with Respiratory Therapy
Participate in weekend rotation (3 shifts per 4-week period), holiday rotation, and float assignments to Med-Surg/Telemetry units as needed
Required Qualifications
Active RN license with a minimum of 2 years of experience in Med-Surg or Telemetry nursing
Level 1 Trauma experience required
Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance (two attempts permitted)
Must successfully complete Day 1 SIMs Lab skills assessment (pass/fail), demonstrating competency in sterile field technique, Foley catheter insertion, and central line dressing changes
Strong critical thinking, neurological assessment skills, and ability to identify subtle changes in patient status
Preferred Experience / Skills
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Certification in Med-Surg or Telemetry preferred
Experience with epilepsy monitoring, EEG trending, or neuroscience patient populations
