Job Title: Registered Nurse - Stroke Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stroke Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years of experience required License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Must-Have: First-time travelers must have 2 years of permanent staff RN experience in acute care. Travelers must have been separated for 1 year if previously a permanent staff. Electrocardiogram competency exam must be passed prior to arrival. Experience with titratable gtts, such as Cardene, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Neo, and Levophed is preferred. Knowledge of chest tube management, trach care, and peritoneal dialysis is preferred. Description: This position involves providing nursing care in a stroke specialty unit. The unit has 12 beds and cares for patients with CVA/TIA requiring TPA administration. Patients may also include those with spinal surgical issues and stepdown overflow cases. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3, with the support of CNAs at a ratio of 1:9. Phlebotomy services are available in-house, and IV/VAT teams are available during the day. Respiratory therapy is also available in-house. Telemetry monitoring is provided with cardiac monitors in each patient room. Charting is done through an electronic medical record system. Travelers will be expected to work every other weekend and adhere to a specific scheduling pattern. Holiday work is required for 2 out of 3 holidays during the contract period. The culture on the unit is welcoming and traveler-friendly. Scrub colors must be pewter, with specific guidelines for t-shirts and jackets. Badges must be displayed above the waist at all times.
