Job Title: Registered Nurse - Telemetry Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: 5E/W Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years required License: California RN License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: EKG competency Description: This is a telemetry nursing position focused on caring for patients post-operatively, with a heavy emphasis on urology. The patient population includes those recovering from robotic radical prostatectomies, partial cystectomies, and similar surgeries. Educational opportunities for professional growth in specializing areas are available. Other patients may present with conditions such as sepsis, cellulitis, DVT/PE, CHF, COPD, COVID, and pneumonia. Occasionally, nurses may care for patients following total joint surgeries or various abdominal procedures. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5-6 on nights, with support available from charge nurses, secretaries, and in-house phlebotomy. Travelers are expected to float to other medical-surgical areas within the facility as needed. Travelers should be proficient in wound management, intravenous therapy, and cardiac rhythm interpretation. All travelers are required to pass an EKG competency exam before starting the position. The charting system used is Meditech Expanse. Scheduling requires weekend rotations every other weekend, with a commitment to working alternating weeks’ schedules. Travelers should anticipate working two out of three holiday periods during the contract. Uniform requirements include specified colors for scrubs and t-shirts, with badges to be displayed prominently.
