Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Telemetry Float Pool Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must be able to titrate cardiac drips. Travelers will need to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to signing the contract (maximum of 2 attempts), within 48 hours of the offer. If a traveler fails, they will be sent home and made a DNU for 6 months. There is also a pass/fail simulation lab on the first day of orientation. If a traveler fails the simulation, they will be sent home and made a DNU for 6 months. Description: Floating is required between all telemetry and medical-surgical units. Nurses will float to ICU, cardiac telemetry, as well as all telemetry units and medical-surgical units. They may also float to various holding areas. Notification of campus and unit will be provided 1.5 hours prior to shift start. Floating to different units mid-shift may occur. The distance between campuses is 9 miles, which takes approximately 15 minutes. Nurses must clock out when leaving one campus and clock in upon arrival at the other campus. Unit information includes: Common diagnoses and types of patients include post-cath lab, post-vascular procedures, and general telemetry. Nurses will manage medications such as Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, and Dobutamine only. They will be assigned a maximum patient ratio of 1:3-4. Charge nurses will not take patient assignments. Support staff will include patient care technicians, typically assigned at a ratio of 1 per every 16 patients. Hospitalists will round during the day and be on call at night. Pharmacy and respiratory therapy services are available 24/7. Shifts are 12 hours in length, from 7 PM to 7 AM. Floor-specific orientation will include training on the unit for 2 shifts. Participation in weekend shifts is required, with expectations outlined in the job responsibilities. Nurses will need to interpret EKGs as part of their duties. Experience in managing various medical and surgical conditions is essential. A supportive team environment is available, helping to ensure patient care and safety. Additional resources such as a house SWAT nurse are accessible for specialized procedures. This position involves a commitment to patient-centered care and teamwork across multiple units.
