Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, COVID Vaccine Required Must-Have: Level I Trauma experience Description: Client pre-screens and the manager will call for a second interview or offer based on notes and profile. A 50-mile radius rule applies. The driver's license is the source of truth. Candidates must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 2 attempts, with a passing score of 80%. If failed, the RN is restricted for 6 months. On Day 1, there will be a pass/fail exam. All RNs will be expected to complete a skills lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes. This requirement is for travelers going to the main and other campuses. The skills lab is pass/fail; nurses may be terminated for breaking the sterile field during the lab. Travelers familiar with maintaining a sterile field typically pass the skills lab. Every nurse is expected to be competent in maintaining a sterile field, as these are frequent nursing skills. Candidates indicating a lack of competence in these areas may not be a good fit. In addition to the skills lab, RNs will also participate in educational sessions for lifts, restraints, and wound care. The unit has up to 23 beds. Strong MedSurg and observation experience is required, along with strong time management skills. Ratios are typically 1:4 to 1:5. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner. Charge nurses may take an assignment when short-staffed and can have 1-3 patients. Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24/7. Staff may be placed on standby and must be notified at least 1.5 hours before their shift. RNs must report to the unit within 1 hour of being called in. Floating occurs to MedSurg Tele floors with 1-2 hours' notice required. Common diagnoses include chest pain, syncope, and post-operative observation patients. High turnover is noted, with significant staffing changes possible in a day. The facility can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment and 3 shifts for assignments less than that. Charting is done using the Cerner system.
