Job Title: Registered Nurse - Telemetry Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in acute care License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Travelers must have 2 years of permanent staff RN experience in acute care. Travelers must be separated for one year if previously a permanent staff member. Traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance prior to arrival. Description: This is a 30-bed unit focused on urology post-operative patients. Conditions treated include robotic radial and simple prostatectomies, partial cystectomies, partial nephrectomies, open radical nephrectomies, and nephroureterectomies. There are many educational opportunities available for travelers. Med/surg overflow includes sepsis, cellulitis, DVT/PE, CHF, COPD, COVID, and PNA. Occasionally, the unit sees total joint surgeries (knees, hips, shoulders) and GI/abdominal surgeries (hemicolectomies, bowel resections, etc.). Patient ratios are RN 1:5-6, nights 1:6. CNA support is 3 per shift, unless census does not necessitate it; up to a 1:10 patient ratio at full capacity. Skills required include wound management, JP drains, wound vacs, hemodialysis catheter care, fistulas, PCA, pain management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation. Telemetry capabilities are also necessary. Support on the unit includes a typically free-floating charge nurse. There is an in-house phlebotomy team, and RNs are responsible for drawing CVL/PICC/midline. An IV/VAT team is available from 7 AM to 3 PM for PICC placement. RT services are also available. A hospitalist is available in-house for most patients. The charting system used is Meditech Expanse. IV pumps are Alaris, and medication dispensing is managed through Pyxis. Travelers may float to any Med/Surg area within the facility. Scheduling requires weekend rotation every other week. Staff will work 4 days one week and 3 days the next week as a mandatory requirement. Requests for time off must not exceed 7 days, with a need to extend one week for every full week requested off. Staff may only request one weekend of time off per 13-week contract. There is no on-call requirement. Holiday expectations include working 2 out of 3 holidays. Scrub color is pewter, and t-shirts must be gray, white, or black with a designated monogram. Jacket colors must be gray or black. Badges must be worn above the waist and in full view at all times.
