Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Surgical Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hours Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Level I trauma experience - ICU experience Description: The Surgical Intensive Care Unit is looking for a Registered Nurse. The unit has 13 beds with typical nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2, with potential for 1:1 or 1:3. Common diagnoses include post-surgical patients, open abdomens, multi-system trauma, and endovascular cases. Registered Nurses are required to titrate medications, including pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin. Charge Nurses and House Supervisors are available on each shift for support. There are nurse aides/patient care technicians on the unit, and their ratio is 1:10. Intensivists are in-house 24/7, providing round-the-clock care. Respiratory Therapy is also available in the unit 24/7. Nurses are required to read and interpret telemetry strips, though monitor technicians are available for support. Shifts are scheduled from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with weekend requirements of six weekend shifts in a six-week period. Every other holiday is also a requirement. There are no call or standby requirements. Travelers may float to a lower level of care and will take a full team assignment. Unit-specific orientation will be provided, including training on the electronic health record system.
