Travel Cardiovascular Stepdown RN
Unit Size: 22 beds
Shift: 12-hour shifts, 6:45–7:15
Schedule: Night shift or rotating days and nights
Call: None
Unit Overview
Cardiovascular Stepdown unit caring for cardiac, vascular, thoracic surgery, and post-operative cardiac patients. Travelers should be comfortable with chest tubes, epicardial pacing, telemetry-level care, and titratable cardiac drips.
Required Experience
- Recent cardiovascular stepdown, PCU, or telemetry experience
- Epicardial pacing experience
- Chest tube management
- Ability to titrate drips according to ordered parameters
- Comfortable caring for post-operative cardiac and thoracic surgery patients
Required Certifications
Staffing and Support
- Charge Nurse takes a full patient assignment
- Nursing Supervisor available 24/7
- Hospitalist and Intensivist available in-house
- Respiratory Therapy available hospital-wide 24/7
- Nursing Assistant ratio is approximately 1:15
- IV Therapy team performs all IV insertions
Telemetry and Respiratory Support
- Central monitor technicians interpret and document rhythm strips
- Bedside RNs are not required to perform formal strip interpretation
- Nihon Kohden monitoring system
- No ventilated patients
- No continuous BiPAP
- CPAP and Airvo may be used
Scheduling Requirements
- Travelers participate in the holiday rotation with permanent staff
- Self-scheduling is managed through a scheduling committee
- Block scheduling may be discussed
- Rotating schedules are typically two weeks of days followed by two weeks of nights, depending on staffing needs
Dress Code
- Navy-blue scrubs
- Artificial nails are not permitted
Cancellation Policy
Facility may cancel up to 2 shifts during a 13-week contract.
