Job Title: RNFA (Perioperative Services) Profession: RNFA Specialty: Perioperative Services Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 10 hours, M - F, 0630 - 1500 or 0830 - 1700 Experience: Minimum three years scrub and circulate experience in an acute care facility License: Current RN license in state of practice Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from approved vendor Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from approved vendor (Preferred) Must-Have: Certification of completion of an approved didactic RNFA course Annual surgeon review Current Professional Liability insurance Description: The RNFA performs the professional functions of a Registered Nurse. This includes assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. The RNFA coordinates, manages, provides, and delegates patient care. The RNFA is responsible for meeting established Standards of Nursing Practice. Promoting cooperation among the healthcare team is essential. The RNFA assists under the direction of the primary operating surgeon in perioperative care. This position functions within policies and guidelines and reports directly to the Director of Perioperative Services. The RNFA exemplifies leadership and professionalism in the role. Essential functions include ensuring patient personal needs are met. The RNFA assists in reducing noise levels in the nursing unit. Participation in the Standards of Conduct is required. A commitment to co-workers and teamwork to meet patient needs is vital. Maintaining patient, co-worker, and hospital privacy is mandatory. Documentation must be clear, concise, and legible. Delivering a clear and concise report is necessary. The RNFA completes all assigned quality monitors as directed by the department manager. Following infection control guidelines is essential. Obtaining history/physical assessments according to unit-specific nursing protocols for all age groups is required. Reviewing medical history, physical examination, and all available assessment data is part of the role. Identifying abnormal diagnostic data and reporting to the appropriate person is expected. Providing information needed for timely discharge planning to appropriate personnel is necessary. Recognizing signs and symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress, or other impending emergencies is crucial. Demonstrating knowledge and ability to effectively function in emergency situations is essential. Accurate administration and charting of medications according to hospital policies are mandatory. The RNFA implements and/or assists others in implementation and documentation of planned education. Assessing patients' educational needs is part of the responsibilities. Demonstrating intraoperative competency as an RNFA, including skills such as manual dexterity, suturing, and providing hemostasis is necessary. The RNFA assists in the development and education of new staff members. Participation in staff meetings is required. Completing education, training, and competencies for department-specific skills is necessary. The RNFA successfully adapts to changes in the unit, environment, and workflow. Assuring all patient charge items are charged and documented correctly is essential. Utilizing department resources appropriately is critical. Performing other job-related duties as assigned may be required.
