THE ROLE

Our client is a 144-bed inpatient behavioral health hospital in the Denver metropolitan area, delivering a broad continuum of psychiatric care including inpatient treatment, Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. The facility operates as a joint venture with a major regional health system and is seeking an experienced Chief Executive Officer to lead its next phase of operational and strategic growth. The CEO carries full executive authority and day-to-day responsibility for hospital operations, financial performance, quality of care, regulatory compliance, and staff development. This is a direct-hire, full-time permanent role reporting to the governing body.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the governing body on the development of annual operating and capital budgets and strategic business plans; coordinate medical staff input through the Office of the Medical Director
  • Manage day-to-day hospital operations to achieve objectives in patient care outcomes, fiscal management, licensure and accreditation maintenance, business development, and medical staff compliance
  • Organise departmental structure, delegation, and alignment of responsibilities to meet patient care and business objectives
  • Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, local businesses, affiliate health providers, and the surrounding community
  • Appraise leadership team performance; assess competencies and provide coaching and corrective action as directed by the governing body
  • Ensure staff participation in facility-wide in-service and continuing education programs, including those specific to children, adolescents, and families
  • Recruit allied health professionals and psychiatrists to expand the scope of service offerings
  • Manage and direct contract negotiations and compliance with the commercial payer community, including rate negotiations and new revenue generation
  • Lead development of continuum of care including comprehensive outpatient services and community-based programs
  • Serve as final authority for resolution of staff performance concerns and performance improvement activities
  • Chair and attend periodic meetings with the governing body, medical staff, executive management team, and other hospital departments
  • Maintain an effective survey readiness plan including a comprehensive auditing programme and corrective action processes
  • Ensure adherence to the compliance programme including timely follow-up of reported issues, staff training, and proactive auditing
  • Lead accurate Governing Board reporting and quarterly calls
  • Ensure prompt, thorough follow-up of patient safety issues including system-level corrections and proactive assessment of high-risk areas
  • Provide appropriate leadership and resources to support QAPI activities

REQUIREMENTS

Must-Have

  • Bachelor's degree required - Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related discipline; MBA/MHA preferred
  • Minimum 3 5 years' experience in a senior leadership or CEO role within a behavioral health, acute care, or managed care hospital environment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead Joint Commission (JCAHO) survey readiness and compliance efforts in a behavioral health hospital setting
  • Full P&L responsibility for a hospital with an annual operating budget of at least $20 million
  • Proven track record leading QAPI, patient-safety initiatives, and corrective action plans in a behavioral health hospital
  • Direct experience hiring, developing, and retaining clinical and medical staff including psychiatrists, nursing leaders, and therapists
  • Thorough knowledge of facility administration, clinical operations, financial management, and business development
