Job Summary:
A Psych RN provides specialized nursing care to patients with mental health disorders, emotional illnesses, substance abuse issues, and behavioral health conditions. They assess patients, administer medications, monitor treatment progress, and work closely with psychiatrists, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Assess patients' mental, emotional, and behavioral health status.
- Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans.
- Administer psychiatric medications and monitor for side effects.
- Observe, document, and report changes in patient behavior and condition.
- Conduct suicide risk assessments and ensure patient safety.
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation when necessary.
- Facilitate therapeutic communication and patient education.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and treatment teams.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the EMR.
- Assist with discharge planning and community resource referrals.
