Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse (RN) Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: - 24 months of Stepdown, Progressive Care, or Medical Surgical experience in a hospital or medical center setting is required. - Neuro/neurology care experience is required. - Ortho/orthopedic care experience is required. - Trauma care experience is highly preferred. - Experience using and reading lift equipment, telemetry, chest tubes, and airvo is required. - Experience administering heparin PCAs is required. - Experience administering 3% sodium is preferred. License: Active Iowa license or compact multistate license is required. Certifications: - Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required. - NIHSS certification is required. Must-Have: - Candidates must have completed at least one travel contract within the previous 12 months. - Skills checklist must be specific to the discipline listed on the job. - Professional reference check is preferred and should be from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO from within the last 24 months. Description: The position requires the ability to work with post TNK, orthopedic, and crani-neurosurgery patients. Candidates may be required to float to other medical surgical units as needed. Legal and compliance standards dictate staffing structures and regulations. The nurse to patient ratio will typically be 1:5 to 1:6. The unit size encompasses 25 beds. Candidates will administer and titrate drips such as heparin gtts and PCAs. Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential. Candidates must be able to work weekends, typically every other or every third weekend. They should be prepared to work 1-2 of the upcoming summer holidays, including Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.
