Job Title: RN Stroke/Neuro PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum Years of Experience: 1 year preferred License: Active Virginia State or Compact RN License required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: - EPIC charting experience required - Neuro PCU experience preferred - Cardiac monitoring, emergency response, dysrhythmia interpretation/management experience Description: This position requires management of stroke and neurology patients. Shift hours are three 12-hour shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM. Weekend requirements may include every other weekend or six weekend shifts within a six-week period. All time-off requests must be included with submission. The facility has a policy permitting them to cancel one shift every two weeks. The candidate must work one holiday during the 13-week contract. First-time travelers are accepted, but prior travel experience is preferred. Candidates residing within 100 miles will be considered local. Pending licenses are accepted if the candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state. The unit specializes in caring for hospitalist medicine patients including stroke and neurology patients. Typical patient ratios are 1:5, with a staffing goal of 1:4. IV drips managed include Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine and dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, and Lidocaine. Remote telemetry is utilized, with monitors remaining on the unit. The candidate may be required to float within their skillset. Isolated precautions and telemetry settings are standard in this unit. Experience in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care is essential. Candidates must be proficient in medication administration including cardiac drips (no titration). Knowledge of respiratory support practices such as nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management is necessary. Isolation precautions and protocols must be followed at all times. This position offers a collaborative interdisciplinary environment with support from various patient care teams. Candidates should possess strong skills in dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
