Job Title: RN Surgical PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Active state RN license required for submission Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - EPIC experience required - Ventilation experience required Description: POSITION: RN Surgical PCU Shift hours: 4x12s, 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM. Charting system: EPIC experience required. Weekend requirements: May include every other weekend or six weekend shifts in a six-week block. Requests for time off and special scheduling requests must be included with the submission. Facility may call off one shift every two weeks. Must work one holiday per 13-week contract. First-time travelers are accepted. Locals are accepted based on radius rule criteria. Pending licenses are accepted only if the candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state. REQUIRED CLINICAL SKILLS: Cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management. IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care. Ventilator care for chronic tracheostomy patients. Medication administration including cardiac drips (no titration). Respiratory support: nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP. Rapid response and code team activation. Isolation precautions and telemetry settings across step down units. UNIT DETAILS: Typical patient ratios are 1:5, with a staffing goal of 1:4. Functions as a step down from General Surgical ICU, with specialized capabilities. Two beds for chronic tracheostomy patients (not ICU level). Staffing includes LPN and CNA support. HOSPITAL HIGHLIGHTS: Recognized as a Level I Trauma Center. Offers advanced specialty care, including bariatric and trauma services. Affiliated with a medical school. ADDITIONAL UNIT INFORMATION: Unit has two vent-capable beds for chronic trach patients. Oxygen modes include CPAP and BiPAP. Telemetry is remote, and monitors remain on the unit. Goal ratio is 4:1; however, the current practice may involve a 5:1 ratio. Staffing includes a team of nurses who may float throughout the building. May require occasional floating to another unit.
