Profile review and manager interview are part of the hiring process. Must have PCU experience and be able to read strips. The unit has 32 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5, occasionally 5-6 on nights, with PCU level care overflow on the unit at 1:3. Common diagnoses and types of patients include adults and geriatrics, cardiac caths, EP studies, pacers, alcohol-related issues, COVID with Bipap, and occasional general surgical patients with a history of heart conditions, and medical patients with cardiac history, pneumonia, acute on chronic conditions, influenza, and sepsis. Experience or key skills needed include tele/cardiac RN experience and PCU experience. RNs will be required to titrate drips such as Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine; Levo is not included. There is a charge nurse on each shift, and the charge nurse may take a light load of 2-3 patients. Nurse aides or patient care techs are present on this unit with the goal of a 1:10 ratio. RNs are required to troubleshoot equipment such as Bipap, trachs, airvo, etc. Tele/monitor techs are available, and portable monitors are used in patient rooms as well. RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own strips. The unit operates on 7a-7p and 7p-7a shifts. If there is a rotating shift, the 7-7 rotation will not occur more than once a week. The schedule will be made by management, considering blocked schedules based on unit needs. Weekend requirements are every other weekend. Holiday requirements are every other holiday. All staff may float to other areas, including PCU for full patient loads and some ER holds/boarding. Any color scrubs are acceptable as part of the dress code. Additional notes indicate that this is more of a tele/cardiac unit. Candidates must adhere to the radius rule of 50 miles and must not be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any affiliated healthcare facilities. Requests for time off should be submitted upfront, with limits on the number of shifts allowed for time off during the contract. Cancellation policy states four shifts per contract, or three shifts if the contract is under 13 weeks. Charting system used is EPIC. A BSN is not required. The care setting is acute. Trauma level is 2. Shift notes include the requirement to float and work every other weekend and holiday. Required certifications are ACLS and BLS.
