Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stroke/Neuro PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night 3x12-Hour Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year preferred License: Active RN License required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - EPIC charting experience required - Neuro PCU experience - Strong knowledge in cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Stroke/Neuro PCU setting. The shift consists of three 12-hour overnight shifts. Charting is done using the EPIC system. Weekend requirements may include working every other weekend or six weekend shifts within a six-week scheduling block. All requests for time off must be submitted with the application. The facility may call off one shift every two weeks if needed. Nurses are required to work one holiday during the 13-week contract. This position welcomes first-time travelers, although travel experience is preferred. Local candidates may apply, following the specified radius rule. Pending licenses may be accepted if the candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state. Required clinical skills include: - Proficiency in medication administration, including cardiac drips (no titration) - IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration - Respiratory support and non-invasive airway management - Experience with telemetry settings across PCU and stepdown units The unit has a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, aiming for 1:4. This telemetry PCU specializes in the care and management of patients with stroke and neurological disorders. The unit is certified as a primary stroke center. Nurses manage various IV drips, including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, and Amiodarone. Remote telemetry monitoring is implemented, with tele sitting to increase Patient Care Tech coverage. Floating within the nursing skill set may be required. The unit's interdisciplinary support includes Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Social Services, and Pharmacy. Nurses will care for adult and geriatric populations, with a daily census of around 25 patients. The unit is equipped to manage special procedures such as chest tube insertions, tracheostomy care, and PICC line management. The goal is to maintain a safe and supportive environment for all patients under care.
