Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1.5 years of Step Down or Progressive Care Unit experience required License: Any state RN license accepted Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Must have vent experience. Must have EPIC experience. Must pass an online EKG tele competency assessment before starting. Must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips. Must be available to work every other weekend and holiday. Description: This position involves working in a Step Down unit with a focus on team nursing. Two nurses and a PCT will work together to care for a group of patients. The goal is to improve workload and patient care through teamwork. Targeted patient ratios are 1:4, can vary up to 1:5-6. Patient population includes individuals with COPD, CHF, Pneumonia, Flu, Sepsis, and Diabetic Ketoacidosis. The unit treats patients requiring ventilatory support, including trach, vents, and high-oxygen requirements. Experience with insulin drips, heparin, and cardiac drips is necessary. No orally intubated patients will be present on the unit. Patient care requires a collaborative approach with Respiratory Therapists. Nurses should have experience in telemetry, managing high-acuity patients, and handling complex care needs. Additional responsibilities include ensuring the safety and comfort of ventilated patients and managing medical devices. The unit encourages a culture of teamwork and pride in delivering high-quality care.
