Job Title: PCU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year in PCU or ICU License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: 1 year of experience providing excellent patient care and documentation 1 year of PCU or prior ICU experience Cerner experience Ability to titrate drips Description: Department: PCU / IMC / Med Surg RN Average census is 8 patients. Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:3-5 in general, 1:3 for ICU, 1:3-4 for IMC/PCU, and 1:5 for Med Surg. There are 2 RNs in the department at all times. Team nursing with RN and LPN to take a total of 7 patients. Common diagnoses include pneumonia, COVID-19, and post-operative knees and hips. Experience with excellent patient care and documentation is required. RNs are required to titrate drips such as Amiodarone and Heparin. Charge nurse typically takes a small patient assignment. Travelers may be asked to step into charge roles. A nurse supervisor covers the ER and the floor and is a great resource. There is 1 CNA to cover the ratio, dependent on census. RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting telemetry strips. Shifts are scheduled with flexibility and self-scheduling is available. Weekend requirement is every third weekend, covering Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Holiday requirements include working 2 out of 3 holidays. There is a call or standby requirement with a 45-minute response time. Floating to other areas may be required, but it is not mandatory. The dress code is any solid color scrubs. Unit specific orientation consists of 4 hours of CBT and 8 hours of floor training.
