Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; 1 year in specialty experience required. License: RN License required. Certifications: BLS, ACLS, Fit Test, CPI (preferred TNCC). Must-Have: - IV Start - Vents - Telemetry - Level 1 Trauma Experience - Conscious Sedation Description: The step-down unit provides care to multi-system injured trauma patients and surgical patients. The unit consists of 25 floor beds, 6 step-down beds, and 6 pediatric beds. A multidisciplinary team approach is utilized in providing nursing care. Ideal candidates should have a background in PCU, IMC, Trauma, or Step Down units. Travelers will not be required to attend to pediatric patients. It is possible for travelers to work solely with floor beds. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5 for floor beds and 1:3 for step-down beds. Candidates will be expected to float within their scope of practice as needed. Blocked schedule requests will be accommodated as much as possible. Candidates must comply with required vaccinations, including flu vaccination unless a medical exemption is documented. Fit testing is mandatory and candidates may need to travel for it. A full file submission is required prior to the start date, including work history and references. The position requires the management of various patient diagnoses and critical drips. Multi-disciplinary support services are integrated within the unit. Experience with traumatic brain injuries is preferred, as well as previous orthopedics and trauma experience. Specific skills include blood product administration, central line management, telemetry monitoring, and wound care. Additionally, candidates will be accountable for performing various procedures such as starting IVs and managing tracheostomies.
