Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Float Pool (MedSurg Tele/Stepdown) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Yes Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Flexibility to float between units Description: Float Pool RNs needed to float between MedSurg/Tele and Stepdown units. The Flex Team floats to various units including MedSurg, Stepdown, IRU (Rehab), and ED holding. MedSurg Units have a total of 28 to 29 beds, all private. BLS is the only required certification for the MedSurg units. RN to patient ratios are 1:6-7. There is a Clinical Manager Monday through Saturday who also acts as Charge Nurse and Nurse Manager. Resource Nurse takes a full patient assignment on nights. CNA support is available during the day on the MedSurg units but is not present on nights. Weekend shift requirement is every other weekend, including Fridays. Holidays are worked into the permanent staff holiday rotation. Scrub color is navy blue, jackets worn must also be navy blue. Patients may have remote telemetry monitoring, but monitors are not on the units. Nurses must be comfortable managing various types of drips, including Heparin and MSO4 for comfort measures. Types of patients include post-surgical, orthopedic, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, and end-of-life care. Patients with COVID may also be housed in designated areas. In the Stepdown unit, the patient ratio is 1:4-5, with 28 private beds available. Common diagnoses include heavy cardiac issues, dysrhythmias, and CVAs. Charge Nurse on days has no assignments, while night charge may have patient assignments. Nurses are expected to interpret telemetry strips, although there is a monitor tech available. Must be able to titrate various drips, with insulin being set-rate. No IV team is present; ICU charge nurses or the ICU Director can be called for difficult IVs. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7, as is the pharmacy. Shifts for RNs are 12 hours, and CNAs work 8-hour shifts. Directors prioritize communication with staff regarding scheduling. Floating may occur to assist other units. Each unit requires floor-specific orientation with a preceptor. Personnel can self-schedule while ensuring the needs of the units are met.
