Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Specialty Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years PCU RN experience License: Active nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required; LVAD certification preferred Must-Have: - Required experience in managing cardiac and medical stepdown patients. - Skills in titrating cardiac drips, insulin drips, and vasopressors. - Ability to manage chest tubes, tracheostomies, and central lines. - Competency in EKG interpretation is mandatory. Description: The PCU consists of 24 to 25 beds, providing care for patients in the cardiac and medical stepdown units. Patients include those recovering from cardiac procedures, respiratory failure, and various medical conditions. The patient-nurse ratio is 1:3-4, ensuring quality patient care and monitoring. Travelers will be assigned a home unit during orientation based on experience with cardiac stepdown patients. Support on the unit includes certified nursing assistants, charge nurses, and resource nursing staff. Charting is completed using an electronic medical record system. Basic duties involve managing medications, performing assessments, and coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams. Weekend rotation is mandatory with every other weekend required. Two to three major holidays will need coverage during the duration of the contract. The unit offers a diverse culture with multiple travelers and a traveler-friendly environment.
