Description:
Unit Notes: Manager interview; no clinical involvement.
Unit is a stepdown unit with a level of care.
Number of beds: 55.
Patient population includes adults and rarely pediatric patients aged 15 and older.
RN Ratio during Day and Night shifts is 1:4.
Shifts are 12 hours with times from 0630 to 1830 and 1830 to 0630.
Weekend requirements are every other weekend.
Scrubs are Navy Blue for RNs and Ceil Blue for CNAs.
Nursing Assistant support is available.
Charge nurse is present on the unit.
Unit support staff includes educators, care managers, social workers, dieticians, physical therapists, and occupational therapists.
Common patient diagnoses include CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, and weakness.
Common drips and medications include PCA pumps for pain management, cardizem, and insulin.
Required certifications are ACLS and BLS.
Additional competencies needed include telemetry.
The electronic medical records system used is EPIC.
IV pumps are Alaris.
Specialty equipment available includes mechanical lifts in every other room.
Unit challenges involve staffing and patient experience challenges with a focus on hourly rounding and responsiveness.
Ideal candidates thrive in managing daily business on the unit.
The team is close-knit and supports one another.
Cancellation policy allows for shifts to be canceled by the hospital under specified conditions.
Charting system is EPIC.
BSN is not required.
Trauma level is 1.
Care setting is acute.
