Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown Unit (PCU/Med Surg/Oncology) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: Chemotherapy certification preferred. Experience in Oncology and PCU is required. Description: RN's must pass a skills examination during orientation. The exam is open book, and all necessary resources will be provided for success. A minimum score of 90% is required to pass. Candidates must adhere to a 50-mile radius rule concerning employment status. Travelers cannot be employed in any capacity with associated facilities. Artificial nails are not permitted for patient care roles. Patients will include those from Oncology PCU and Trauma PCU. Travelers may float to Med/Surg and PCU units when necessary. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:4 for PCU and 1:5 for Med Surg. Common diagnoses include oncology and trauma. RNs will occasionally titrate drips such as insulin and cardizem. Common medications include chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, and protonix. The care setting involves adults in an acute environment. Additional support staff available include PT/OT, case managers, and dieticians. Real-time training will be provided for required competencies. The charting system used will be an electronic medical record system. The qualities sought in a nurse include a genuine desire to care for patients and a positive attitude towards teamwork. Teamwork is essential in ensuring success within the unit. Patient experience challenges focus on hourly rounding and respect for cultural diversity.
