Job Title: Registered Nurse - Stepdown Unit Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: CVU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years required License: Active RN License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 1 year of experience with intermediate care patients. Ability to titrate drips, including Amiodarone, Nitro, and others. Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips. Description: The stepdown unit provides care for patients who require intermediate care and downgraded from intensive care. The unit supports various cardiac-related programs and handles patients with cardiovascular conditions. The nurse-to-patient ratio typically ranges from 1:3 to 1:4, depending on patient acuity. Charge nurses are present on each shift and may rarely take on an assignment. There are nurse aides available to support the nursing staff on the unit. Hospitalists and intensivists are in-house around the clock, with cardiology available on call after hours. Respiratory therapy services are also available 24/7. Registered nurses are required to troubleshoot and assist with respiratory equipment such as BiPAP and CPAP. Remote telemetry technicians monitor patients, though registered nurses must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips independently. Shifts are scheduled with no self-scheduling or block scheduling options. Every other weekend shift is required. Floating to all same level and lower acuity units is necessary. Dress code for the unit is navy blue scrubs. Requests for time off must be specified upfront and limited. Cancellation policies allow the facility to cancel a limited number of shifts per assignment duration.
