Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stepdown Unit (PCU/Med Surg/Oncology) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Active RN license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, ONS/ONCC Must-Have: - Chemotherapy certification required - Experience in oncology and PCU preferred - Ability to titrate drips (insulin, cardizem) - Familiarity with ventilators and hemodynamic monitoring Description: The position involves caring for patients in a mixed unit. Patient demographics include adults with oncology and trauma diagnoses. RN ratios during the day: 1 RN to 4 patients for PCU and 1 RN to 5 patients for Med Surg. RN ratios during the night: 1 RN to 5-6 patients. Shifts are 12 hours, with various start and end times. Every other weekend work is required. Self-scheduling is permitted. Scrubs are navy blue. Nursing assistants provide support on the unit. There will be a charge nurse in the unit. Other support staff available includes PT, OT, RN case managers, social workers, educators, and dieticians. Common patient diagnoses primarily involve oncology. Common medications include chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, and protonix. Candidates will receive training in necessary competencies in real-time. The electronic medical record system used is EPIC. IV pumps utilized are Alaris. Specialty equipment available includes ceiling lifts in patient rooms. Floating between units of the same level of care may be required. The focus is on providing quality patient experience through hourly rounding. Ideal candidates should possess a genuine need to care for patients. Teamwork is vital for success in this role. Cultural diversity and respect for varying beliefs are crucial in patient care.
