Job Title: PCU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Ability to read and interpret telemetry Description: RN's must pass a mandatory exam during orientation. This is an open book exam covering skills learned. Resources will be provided to help achieve a passing score of 90%. Failure to pass may result in termination. The unit cares for adult patients, primarily those admitted through the emergency department. Patients typically present with mixed medical/surgical issues, as well as cardiac and stroke conditions. RNs are required to titrate drips, including heparin, octreotide, and insulin. Maintenance dosages of IV medications may also be administered. A charge nurse is present on each shift and handles patient assignments. Nurse aids or patient care techs are available, with a ratio of 1:14. Specialty equipment includes code carts, LUCAS machines, hoyer lifts, and sit-to-stand aids. Tele/monitor techs are available, and RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry. Shifts are scheduled for 6 weeks and are managed by unit schedulers. Weekend and holiday shifts will rotate among staff. Floating requirements may include assignment to medical/surgical areas and appropriate patient care departments. The dress code is navy blue scrubs. The first week includes classroom orientation followed by two 12-hour shifts. This is a high-flow unit with frequent admissions, transfers, and discharges. We are looking for positive team-oriented nurses to collaborate and address challenges. Unit secretaries are available 2-3 days per week, and stocking clerks are present 3 days a week. Requests for time off must be disclosed upfront, with limitations on additional requests. The cancellation policy allows for shifts to be canceled during the assignment duration. The charting system used is EPIC.
