Job Title: PCU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 20 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years of experience required License: RN License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must pass an open book exam during orientation with a score of 90% or higher. Description: Department: PCU This is a fast-paced floor. Attributes that will help a nurse be successful on this unit include a positive attitude, good communication skills, critical thinking, and the ability to problem solve. Common diagnoses/types of patients include adults and geriatrics with cardiac issues, nephrology, strokes, diabetes, and those requiring continuous EEG monitoring. RNs are required to titrate drips. Common titratable or set rate drips include Cardizem, beta-blockers, and seizure medications. There is a charge nurse on each shift who will take an assignment. Nurse aides or patient care techs are available on this unit with a typical ratio of 1:10 or 2:20. Weekend requirements include working every other weekend. Holiday requirements entail working every third holiday. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating to medical floors, ICU, or rehab may be required. The first week consists of onboarding, followed by 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation. RTO needs to be provided upfront, and additional RTO will not be approved after submissions. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment.
