Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: PCU/Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 1 year of critical care experience License: Active RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: Travel experience required, ICU skill set required (Bipap, Cpap, Mechanical Ventilation, telemetry, critical drips, post cardiac cath care), 1-2 years critical care experience Description: Unit has 11 beds, expanding to 12 following ICU expansion. Ratios are 1 nurse to 4 patients. Common diagnoses include post op vascular, hemodynamically stable cardiac dysrhythmias, CVA, sepsis, renal patients, stable acute MI, unstable angina, and post cardiac cath with PCTA or significant blockage. Floating to ICU or Stepdown is required due to patient needs. Experience with arterial lines, post fem-pop and endarterectomy preferred. Nurses will titrate drips including insulin, Cardizem, Heparin, Amiodarone, and low-dose Dopamine. Charge nurse is assigned in the unit, with support from a house supervisor available 24/7. There is a patient care technician for 10 patients, and nurses assist with general care and clerical duties when needed. Respiratory therapy equipment includes Cpap, Bipap, high flow oxygen, mechanical ventilation via tracheostomy, specialty beds, and IV pumps. Unit has telemetry with a monitor tech available 24/7, and RNs read strips. Weekend requirement is every other weekend. Holiday requirement is rotational. Travel staff are required to float to med-surg telemetry if not needed in ICU or Stepdown and may float to the emergency department to care for boarded patients. Scrubs must be solid colors, no embroidery or patterns; closed-toed shoes only.
