Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: PCU/Med Surg/Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 hours Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, ONS/ONCC Must-Have: Chemotherapy certification required; experience in Oncology and PCU preferred Description: Registered Nurses will be responsible for providing high-quality care in a stepdown unit. Candidates must pass a skills exam during orientation, achieving a minimum score to continue employment. All nurses are expected to comply with the fingernail policy, which prohibits artificial nails in patient care areas. Significant patient populations include oncology and trauma patients. Travelers may float to various Med/Surg and PCU units as required. Common patient diagnoses include oncology-related conditions and general medical-surgical issues. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 for PCU and 1:5 for Med/Surg. RNs will occasionally titrate drips, including insulin and cardizem. Competencies in ventilator management and hemodynamic monitoring are required, with training provided as necessary. This unit promotes a collaborative and respectful environment, valuing diversity in patient care. Nurses are encouraged to engage in hourly rounding as part of patient experience initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a genuine desire to care for patients and a commitment to teamwork and cooperation. While cancellation policies may apply, the unit is dedicated to maintaining consistent staffing levels to support quality patient care. Charting will be conducted using an electronic medical record system.
