Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Driving license required for submission Description: Department: PCU Fingernail policy: Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care. Refusal to remove nails will lead to termination of contract. Registered Nurses must pass a pass/fail exam during orientation. It is an open book exam on skills learned, and they are provided all necessary resources to pass. A score of 90% or higher is required to pass, or termination will occur. The unit consists of 35 beds. Staffing ratios are 1:4-5. Common diagnoses include adults and geriatrics, cardiac conditions, nephrology, strokes, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring. Registered Nurses are required to titrate drips. Common titratable and set rate drips include Cardizem, beta blockers, and seizure medications. A charge nurse is present on each shift. Charge nurses do take an assignment. There are nurse aids or patient care techs on this unit, with ratios of 1:10 or 2:20. Shifts are scheduled for 0630-1900 and 1830-0700. Weekend requirements entail working every other weekend. Holiday requirements include working every third holiday. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating between medical floors, ICU, or rehab may be required. The first week of onboarding is followed by 1-2 days of orientation on the floor. This is considered a fast-paced floor. Attributes that may help a nurse succeed on this unit include a positive attitude, willingness to help others, good communication skills, critical thinking, and the ability to problem solve. Additional time off needs to be communicated upfront and cannot exceed 7 days for the duration of the contract. Additional requests for time off will not be approved after submission. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting is done using an electronic system. A BSN is not required. This role is in an acute care setting. The trauma level for this position is 2.
