Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Pass/Fail exam on Friday during orientation. - Must receive a 90% to pass or will be terminated. - No artificial nails are allowed in any departments providing patient care. - Driver's license is required. Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse in a stepdown unit. This unit has a total of 55 beds. The patient population mainly includes adults, with occasional pediatric patients aged 15 and older. The RN ratio during the day and night shifts is 1:4. Shifts are for 12 hours, with times set from 0630 to 1830, and 1830 to 0630. Every other weekend is required. Scrubs for the unit are navy blue for nursing staff and ceil blue for nursing assistants. Nursing assistants provide support within the unit. The unit is supported by an educator, care managers, social workers, dieticians, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. Common patient diagnoses include cerebrovascular accidents, transient ischemic attacks, shortness of breath, COVID-19, subdural hematomas, and general weakness. Common drips and medications include PCA pumps for pain management, cardizem, and insulin. Required competencies include telemetry. The electronic medical record system used is EPIC. IV pumps available are Alaris. Mechanical lifts are accessible in every other room. There may be staffing challenges within the unit. Float opportunities are available, ideally to medical-surgical areas. The focus for patient experience includes hourly rounding and responsiveness. Successful candidates will be able to manage the daily responsibilities of the unit. The unit is characterized by a tight-knit group that supports one another.
