Description:
This is a mixed acuity unit that cares for both PCU and Med Surg patients.
It is a very busy surgical floor.
All permanent staff is PCU trained.
Staffing ratios aim for 1:4, but can be increased to 1:5.
Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs.
No set or blocked scheduling is offered.
All travelers may be required to float within their scope of practice.
Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period.
Changes in assignments are not guaranteed and depend on staffing priorities.
Patient age groups include adults and geriatrics.
Common diagnoses include surgical oncology conditions such as breast, thyroid, melanoma, and various cancers related to the liver, pancreas, spleen, biliary tract, colorectal issues, and plastics.
Common procedures include chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and management of oncologic emergencies.
There is a heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and preventing patient falls.
Candidates must have current acute care experience in the specialty of application.
Travelers must complete required credentialing procedures promptly.
Two professional references are required, including one from a manager or supervisor.
Education must be from an accredited program.
