Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 16 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: 2 Years Minimum in Specialty License: Valid State License Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - PCU Nursing Experience - Ability to Float Within Scope Description: This is a mixed acuity unit that cares for both progressive care and medical-surgical patients. It is a very busy surgical floor. All permanent staff is trained in progressive care. The staffing ratio goal is 1:4 but can be 1:5. Weekends are variable based on unit needs. There is no set or blocked scheduling available. All travelers may be required to float within their scope of practice. If you accept a rotating contract, you may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination of both. Shift assignments are reviewed every four-week scheduling period, but changes are not guaranteed. Self-scheduling requests are accepted. The first week of training is day shift, and the second week includes on-unit training with a preceptor. Patient age groups include adults and geriatrics. Common patient diagnoses include surgical oncology and other related conditions. Special procedures performed include chemotherapy and blood transfusions. The focus is on infection prevention and patient safety. Heavy emphasis is placed on infection prevention protocols and falls prevention. Required skills include management of special equipment and interpretation of dysrhythmias. Experience with specific patient care technologies is essential. Candidates must meet experience requirements within the past three years. A minimum of one year of current specialty experience is required for a clinical pass. References from professional supervisors or managers are required. Students from accredited nursing programs are encouraged to apply.
