The exam is open book, covering skills learned. Candidates are provided with all necessary resources to pass. A score of 90% is required to pass. Failing to achieve this score will lead to termination. Candidates must reside outside of a specific radius and cannot be employed by any associated facilities within the past year. A valid driver's license is required for screening. Fingernail policy prohibits artificial nails in all patient care departments. Refusal to comply will lead to contract termination. Department: Stepdown RN. Bed capacity is 22. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4. Common diagnoses include heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke. RNs are required to titrate drips, including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin. There is a charge nurse on each shift who takes a full patient assignment. Nurse aides or patient care techs are present on this unit with a ratio of 1:10. RNs are required to troubleshoot respiratory equipment but are not responsible for operating them. RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips. Cyclic scheduling is followed with weekend requirements every other week. Holiday requirements include one major and one minor holiday. RNs may float to ICU as appropriate based on experience. Unit-specific orientation consists of one 12-hour shift. This is a fast-paced unit with many admits and discharges. Attributes helping nurses succeed include a positive attitude, teamwork, and a focus on patient care. All requested time off must be submitted upfront. Additional time off requests will not be approved after the initial submission. Cancellation Policy: The facility can cancel up to four shifts per thirteen-week assignment. Charting system utilized is EPIC.
