Job Title: PCU RN - Ortho Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 Years Experience Required License: RN License Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Need level 1 trauma experience. Experience with high acuity orthopedic patients. Experience with post-operative care for orthopedic trauma patients. Ability to manage a large patient turnover. Description: The position requires managing a patient ratio of 1:5, with the possibility of flexing to 1:6. Candidates must have experience in providing post-operative care for various orthopedic surgeries. Candidates should be skilled in administering blood products and supporting patient mobility. Common procedures include Total Joints, ORIF for fractures, Laminectomy, and certain gynecological and eye surgeries. High volume of patient admissions is typical on this unit, necessitating quick adaptability. Teaching and Trauma Level 1 experience is required. RNs may be assigned charge nurse responsibilities and will need to work holiday shifts as necessary. Weekend requirements include a minimum of 8 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule. Floating between departments, units, or facilities may be expected. Candidates must possess certification in BLS and ACLS. Skills required include intravenous therapy, blood product administration, and wound care management. The unit supports interdisciplinary services such as physical therapy and respiratory services. This position involves working with patients across various age groups, including adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Daily patient census is approximately 20. Special equipment used within the unit includes traction devices, PCA pumps, and various line management tools.
