Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 to 2 years of Telemetry Experience required License: Active Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Telemetry experience Ability to manage a patient ratio of 1:5 (flexible to 1:6) Description: Registered Nurse in a fast-paced Intermediate Unit. The unit accommodates intermediate medical patients and surgery overflow. Common procedures include TURPS, laparoscopic surgeries, diabetic teaching, and wound care. Excellent for ensuring throughput from the Emergency Department and Operating Room. An environment that requires quick adaptation to a variety of patient needs. Floating between departments may be required as needed. Minimum of 8 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling period. Skills in cardiac monitoring are essential. Responsibilities include monitoring and managing dysrhythmias. Experience with IV insulin protocols is crucial. Knowledge of feeding tube management and bladder irrigation is expected. The role involves central line care, phlebotomy, and peripheral line management. Proficiency in medication protocols, especially Heparin and PCA, is necessary. Strong emergency response skills are essential, including the use of Rapid Response Teams. Familiarity with tracheostomy management and orthopedic procedures is preferred. An emphasis on wound care and isolation precautions is required. Overall, a collaborative team effort exists with support from various interdisciplinary services.
