Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:30) Experience: Minimum of 2 years PCU/Stepdown experience required License: Valid Nursing License Certifications: BLS (AHA), ONS/ONCC preferred, will accept one or the other Must-Have: - Oncology/Chemo experience highly preferred - ONC certification highly preferred - Ability to administer chemotherapy via IV - Experience starting IVs - Familiarity with Welch Allyn vital sign towers, sigma IV pumps, and EPIC for documentation Description: Backfill needed as soon as possible. No requests for time off for the July 4th holiday will be accepted. Nursing staff will care for general medicine and oncology stepdown patients. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-6, with support staff available if ratios flex higher. Charge registered nurses are typically not included in patient assignments. Chemo admissions may decrease assignment ratios. Block scheduling may be accommodated upon specific request. Scheduling includes assigned weekends managed by the scheduler, while other days can be based on self-scheduling. Nurses must be available for the first two weeks of the assignment. Any requests for time off after the offer will need to be discussed with the onsite manager. The unit serves adults and geriatric patients with a daily census of approximately 29 patients. Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and unit secretary services. Common patient diagnoses include sepsis, renal failure, respiratory failure, cancer, heart failure, DKA, and diabetes. Special procedures performed on the unit include CAPD and chemotherapy administration. Equipment used in this unit includes bipap/cpap systems.
