The unit has 32 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5, occasionally 5-6 on nights, with PCU level care overflow on the unit 1:3. Common diagnoses and types of patients include adults and geriatrics, cardiac catheterizations, EP studies, pacemakers, and ETOH, as well as COVID-19 BiPAP, occasional general surgical patients with heart histories, and medical patients with cardiac histories, pneumonia, acute on chronic conditions, influenza, and sepsis. Experience or skills desired include tele/cardiac RN with PCU experience. Epic experience preferred; first-time travelers are welcome. Registered Nurses will be required to titrate drips. Common titratable and/or set rate drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, and Lasix, with low-dose Dopamine but no Levophed. There is a charge nurse on each shift who occasionally takes a light patient load of 2-3 patients. Nurse aides or patient care techs are present on the unit, with a goal of 1:10 ratios. Registered Nurses are required to troubleshoot with respiratory equipment such as BiPAP, tracheostomies, Airvo, etc. There are tele/monitor techs available, with portable monitors and monitors in patient rooms. Registered Nurses are responsible for reading and interpreting their own strips. Shifts are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. If rotating shifts occur, the 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. rotation will not happen more than weekly. Schedule management will consider blocked scheduling based on unit needs. Weekend requirements include every other weekend. Holiday requirements include every other holiday. There is no call or standby requirement. Registered Nurses may float to all areas as helping hands, including full patient loads in PCU and assignments in medical-surgical units, as well as some emergency room holds/boarding. Scrub color is flexible; any color scrubs are allowed. There are two 12-hour shifts of unit/department-specific orientation, with the Registered Nurse on their own by the end of the first weekend. The unit is more focused on tele/cardio care. Additional time off requests must be made upfront and will not be approved after submissions. Cancellation policy states four shifts per contract; three shifts if the contract is under 13 weeks. Charting system used is Epic. BSN is not required. Must have an active license for submission. Care setting is acute. Trauma level is 2.
