Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience required License: Active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS required Must-Have: Epic charting experience required Cardiac telemetry experience required Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse in a PCU/Observation Unit. Shift hours are 3x12s, from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM. Experience with Epic charting is required. Weekend requirements may include every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block. All requests for time off must be included with the submission. The facility may call off one shift every two weeks. The RN must work one holiday during the 13-week contract. Clinical skills required include: Cardiac monitoring and emergency response. Administration of IV therapy and phlebotomy. Management of central and peripheral lines, accessing/managing ports, and PICC line management. Respiratory support via nasal cannula and oxygen administration. Use of rapid response and code teams while maintaining isolation precautions. Management of medications including heparin protocols and vasoactive drips. Experience in Cardiac Telemetry and ER holding is required. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:5, depending on hospital capacity and emergency department volume. This unit functions as a 16-bed admission unit where med/surg or PCU level patients await their inpatient bed assignments. The Registered Nurse will carry out inpatient orders and complete admission databases in preparation for inpatient transfer. Floating within the skill set may be required. The facility is a general acute care teaching hospital with a significant number of licensed beds. It is designated as a trauma center and a certified stroke center. The hospital has been recognized for excellence in nursing for over twenty years. Additional support services include IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. Candidates must have travel experience and be prepared for call requirements. The candidate must manage both cardiac and vasoactive drips without titration and administer PCA. Candidates are required to work holidays as specified.
