Description:
This unit primarily cares for patients undergoing cardiovascular and vascular surgeries.
Procedures include open heart surgery, thoracic lung surgery, esophagogastrectomy, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, and carotid endarterectomy.
The unit also manages overflow medical cardiology patients with various conditions.
There are 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds.
Approximately 100 staff members work on the unit.
The night shift includes one charge RN and thirteen RNs, along with four Patient Care Technicians.
Patient ratios are 1:5 for RNs and 1:13 for Patient Care Technicians.
Equipment used on the unit includes IV pumps and various lifts.
Electronic medical records are managed through a specified software system.
Preferred candidates will have experience in cardiovascular surgery and vascular surgery within the last year.
Candidates with CVICU experience will be prioritized.
Typical procedures performed include epidural and chest tube management, tube feedings, and cardiac medication management.
The ideal candidate should be a team player, enjoy a fast-paced environment, and be flexible.
The position does not require on-call duty.
A minimum of six weekend shifts is expected within a six-week schedule.
Flexibility to work holidays may also be required.
