Description:
The unit has a total of 10 beds for ICU/PCU overflow.
Patient ratios are 2:1 for ICU and 4-5:1 for PCU.
There will be no unit secretaries or patient care technicians available.
The staffing during the day shift includes 1 Charge RN and 5 Staff RNs.
The night shift will also include 1 Charge RN and 5 Staff RNs.
Equipment used includes lift equipment, targeted temperature management, ventilators, and IV pumps.
The documentation system utilized is Cerner.
Scheduling requirements include 12-hour shifts, with every other weekend requirement and holiday support.
Floating is part of the policy, and travelers may be required to float to different units.
Bedside shift report is mandatory in all areas of the hospital.
The relief charge nurse is expected to perform nurse leader rounding.
Advanced skills required include ventilator management, critical care pharmacology, advanced hemodynamic monitoring, and central line management.
Procedures performed on the unit include assisting providers with bedside procedures such as chest tube insertion and intubations.
