Job Title: RN Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical ICU in a large facility License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Medical ICU experience in a large facility - Comfortable with hemodynamic monitoring and ventilator management - Strong critical thinking skills - Flexibility and ability to work well with others - Advanced skills in ventilator management, critical care pharmacology, and hemodynamic monitoring Description: The unit consists of 10 beds for ICU/PCU overflow with patient ratios of 2:1 for ICU and 4-5:1 for PCU. Staffing includes 1 Charge RN and 5 Staff RNs during night shifts. No unit secretaries or patient care technicians are available. Type of equipment utilized includes lift equipment, targeted temperature management systems, ventilators, and IV pumps. The documentation system used is Cerner. The unit follows specific scheduling requirements of 12-hour shifts, every other weekend, and holiday support. There are no on-call requirements. Floating policy is in effect, and travelers may be required to float. Bedside shift report is mandatory, and relief charge nurses are expected to perform nurse leader rounding. Nurses will assist providers with bedside procedures as needed, such as chest tube insertion and intubations. Candidates should have advanced knowledge of critical care pharmacology, including IV sedation, paralytics, and vasopressors, as well as central line management.
