Job Title: Progressive Care Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Current RN Licensure in the State Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS required; EPNC, TNCC preferred Must-Have: Ability to operate advanced medical equipment and provide care for hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients Description: The Progressive Care Nurse will provide care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients. This includes providing physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural support to the patient. Anticipated patient populations include a broad scope of medical and surgical services. Staff will expect patients in relative stability while recognizing diagnoses that may require skilled assessment and intervention tools for potential deterioration. Required to operate advanced medical equipment and care for patients with various medical devices. Provides care for general medical and surgical patients on an inpatient unit. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Nurses effectively interact with patients and significant others while maintaining the standard of professional nursing. Has the ability to assess and implement established policies and procedures with minimal supervision. Acts as a clinical leader and assists with precepting staff. Provides direct care for patients from admission to discharge, including discharge planning. Gives directions to various support staff. The Progressive Care Nurse will also support the Medical Surgical Nursing Unit when staffing actions are required. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to use basic office equipment and operate multiple IV pumps. Ability to operate advanced medical equipment, including invasive lines and ventilatory support. Knowledge of basic cardiac telemetry and EKG interpretation is required. Advanced nursing principles and procedures are essential. Pediatric experience and experience in post-heart catheterization care are preferred. Ability to manage common IV medications is required.
