Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience required License: Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required Certifications: ACLS and BLS required Must-Have: Epic charting experience required Description: Registered Nurse for the Emergency Observation Unit. Scheduled shifts are 3x12 hours, from 7 AM to 7 PM. Charting experience with Epic is required. Weekend shifts may be every other weekend or include 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block. Requests for time off must be included with the submission. Facility has the option to call off one shift every two weeks. Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract. First-time travelers are not accepted. Local candidates are accepted based on radius rule criteria. Candidates with pending licenses from non-compact states are accepted only if they hold a single-state license. Required clinical skills include: Cardiac monitoring and emergency response, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias. IV therapy and phlebotomy, blood product administration, and line management. Respiratory support via nasal cannula and oxygen administration. Use of rapid response and code teams, as well as maintaining isolation precautions. Management of medications including heparin protocols and IV insulin protocols. Experience in cardiac telemetry, ER holding, and PCU is preferred. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:5, contingent on hospital capacity and ED volume. The unit is a 16-bed admission area where patients await inpatient bed assignments. Inpatient orders will be carried out and admission databases will be completed prior to inpatient transfer. Travelers are required to float within their skill set. Daily census is approximately 16 patients. Team support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. Additional support services include pharmacy, transportation, and rapid response teams. The patient population includes adults and geriatrics. A variety of medical diagnoses will be managed in this unit.
